Malasana (Garland Pose) is a deep, foundational yoga squat that opens the hips, stretches the lower back, and improves ankle mobility. It mirrors a natural resting position and is excellent for relieving stiffness from prolonged sitting. How to Do: Start: Stand with your feet slightly wider than hip-width apart, with your toes pointing out at a 45-degree angle. Squat: Exhale as you slowly lower your hips down into a full squat. Keep your thighs slightly wider than your torso. Align: Bring your palms together at your heart center in Anjali Mudra (prayer position). Open: Press your elbows against your inner knees to gently push them outward, which helps open your hips and lengthen your spine. Hold: Keep your chest lifted, your shoulder blades relaxed, and your heels grounded into the floor. Hold for 5 to 10 deep breaths, then slowly rise or release to sit.
Flexibility: Deeply stretches the hips, groins, inner thighs, ankles, and lower back. Strength: Engages the glutes, quadriceps, calves, and deep hip rotators. Digestion: Compressing the abdomen aids digestion and encourages a calm, meditative state.
